“Dare to dream because in the end we all are just dreamers in an endless Universe”- anonymous

The Indian School-Second Shift observed World Space Week from 4 to 10 October 2020. The activities were linked with the School theme of the year- ‘ How Satellites improve life.’

The students enthusiastically participated in the activities at each level, efficiently achieving STEM outcomes.

Our little preschoolers were introduced to astronomical objects found in space in a story telling session  -'Rocky's Space Adventure'. They learnt to artistically craft objects similar to those seen.

The students of pre primary engaged in learning about astronauts and planets through exciting art and craft work.

Class 1 held an inter class creative-printing competition depicting outer space through vegetable printing, stamping interesting randomly curated shapes.

The students of class 2 used origami  to creatively expand their horizon into outer space. They also engaged in a round of creative writing. A short video lesson on constellations and planets in our solar system was also included for them.

Class III, celebrated the week with a lesson introducing the topic of the lunar phases of the moon.  Encouraging students to craft 3-D models of the moon in its different phases.

Class IV explored the theme making 'best of waste'  satellites, using discarded materials as a mark of  environment safety.

Students of class V participated in an online inter-class quiz on the topic,

Space. 2 winners were declared from each section.

Students of class 6 enacted a play, titled, ' Landing of Mangalyaan 6‘, the script containing all the elements of a space contingency plan. The performance was exemplary!

Classes VII and VIII presented a 5 minute podcast highlighting major events in the history of space and interviews with renowned astronauts .

The week was a rich engagement with the various facets of Space, across the levels. An activity embedded experience undoubtedly offers the best assimilation of any subject.
