Diwali celebrations in class 1

Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India when people come together to celebrate light, life and goodness. It is believed that Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya on this day after killing the demon king Ravana in his fourteen years of exile.

Happiness spreads through sharing, but this year, everyone needs to be extra careful with festivities and congregations to celebrate. With the corona virus still looming large, good wishes and congratulatory messages via the virtual mode are the safest. Hence, students of class 1 celebrated Diwali in an online special assembly.

The assembly commenced with the students briefing the audience about the importance of Diwali and how it is celebrated. They described about how people decorate their homes with diyas, rangolis and exchange gifts with their families and friends on this auspicious day.

Followed by the short speeches, the little ones showcased their acting prowess by enacting a skit- ‘Green Diwali’. They apprised the viewers about the adverse effects of fireworks and promoted the use of eco-friendly colours for rangolis. A scintillating dance performance on the song ‘Mere tumhare, sab ke liye,…..Happy Diwali’ greatly engaged the audience.

Other activities like painting clay diyas and making floral rangolis were also organised in all the sections.

The assembly concluded with the teachers discussing the Do’s and Don'ts of firecrackers. A poster on ‘Noise Pollution’ was also shown where the teachers emphasised on the importance of saying ‘No to crackers’ and urged children to be sensitive towards their environment by celebrating a clean and cracker- free Diwali. 

Last but not the least, a pledge to celebrate Diwali in a clean and green way, was taken by our young Foundationers. The pledge intended to voice their deep concern for the environment and for them to be eecognised as the future ambassadors of a sustainable and green world.
