Celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas across the classes

“Manpower without unity is not a strength until it is harmonided and united properly, then it becomes a spiritual power. “ Sardar Patel.

The birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is observed as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas across India on 31 October every year.

We, at The Indian School-Second Shift too commemorate the important occasion and make it a lesson in Unity and its significance across the classes, in an age appropriate manner.

Creativity is the best teacher and the mediums of art and music were used to explain Unity in the Pre School classes. The children were taught to sing the timeless ‘Hum Honge Kamyab…..’. They also expressed themselves in a colouring activity on national integration.

Our country is famous for its diversity and richness of cultures. Keeping this in mind, the students of the Pre Primary classes were shown a presentation followed by a simple craft activity where they learnt the the meaning of the words ‘oneness’ and ‘united.’

Class1 students were shown an audio visual clip highlighting the ‘Joy of Unity’, in the light of Sardar Patel’s contribution to building modern India and the life of the ‘Iron Man of India’.

The students of class 2 were shown videos about the role of Sardar Patel, in the freedom struggle. This was followed by poster making activity on the theme ‘Rashtriya Ekta’.

The students of class 3 participated in a poem writing activity on the theme of National Unity.

The students of class 4 participated in the celebrations by dressing up in the diverse attire worn in the different parts of our great country. They vividly represented Unity in Diversity.

In class 5, a discussion was held about the Sardar and students composed slogans on the importance of Unity.

Classes 6, 7 and 8 discussed how unity affects them and their surroundings. They seemed to comprehend that unity is strength at every level- our families  our communities and the country at large. They wrote essays on the learnings from the Sardar's life and also  made striking posters.

The exercise was an engaging and thought provoking activity across the age groups.
