Citizenship Programme workshops on SDG 1 and SDG 2
While farmers contribute to our survival, let us do our part by showing them respect in form of not wasting food – Mohith Agadi.
The Sustainable Development Goals work towards a world of peace and prosperity, eradicating major issues such as poverty and hunger, all the while, protecting the planet.
SDG #1 aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere whereas SDG #2 is about creating a world free of hunger by 2030.
With the right tools and information, young people can play a critical role in the implementation and monitoring of SDGs, sparking action in their communities. The Citizenship Programme at The Indian School-Second Shift works to educate students about the importance of these goals and helps them research, problem-solve, engage in teamwork and acquire communication skills. In the direction, 3 workshops were held by Ms Sangeeta Aswani, Citizenship Coordinator, for classes 6 to 9 on 23, 24 and 25 November, 2022.
During the workshops, videos were shown to the students. Ted Talks, interviews of personalities such as Bill Gates, exposed them to the desperate conditions of people worldwide. Many people do not have access to basic amenities such as clothes and shelter. There are many who cannot even eat two meals in a day. The most affected are children who receive almost no nutritional inputs for growth and good health.
The students watched the videos with keen interest. In a discussion students expressed their views about how they can lend a helping hand in some small ways to tackle this formidable situation.
