Healthy Food activity in class 1
Ann Wigmore said, “The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
This statement rings true, as a healthy diet is crucial for good health. It protects against chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Unfortunately, consuming excessive amounts of junk food regularly can increase the risk of obesity and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
To instill healthy eating habits in class 1, an insightful Healthy Food vs. Junk Food activity was conducted under the aegis of the Citizenship Programme on 4th September 2023. The teacher used pictures and videos to explain the benefits of eating healthy food.
Following the insightful presentation, an interactive activity was conducted to help students understand the adverse effects of consuming junk food. Students had carried cutouts of healthy food and junk food from home and pasted them on a chart divided into two halves. They had to identify and place the images in the appropriate half of the chart. Senior students helped their junior peers with the activity, and both groups enjoyed the learning together.
It is essential to educate children about healthy eating habits as the foundation of good health. This insightful activity enabled class 1 students to differentiate between healthy and junk food in a fun activity. They are now aware of the benefits of consuming healthy food and the adverse effects of consuming junk food.
