Citizenship Programme activity: visit to a home for the aged

‘Old is Gold’……. This beautifully fits into the teaching and learning process of the Citizenship programme which seeks to ingrain important qualities amongst the students.

Spending time with the family elderly and the infirm is an invaluable exercise in teaching children to make time for those badly in need of it. Infact the spending time with the elderly can provide an invaluable opportunity to learn from their rich experiences.

With this objective the students of The Indian School-Second Shift visited the Golden Estate in Faridabad, an abode for senior citizens on 24th January, 2020. They were accompanied by their teachers, Mrs. Sangeeta Aswani, Ms. Neeti Gupta and Mr. Jibin George. At the venue, the visitors were lovingly welcomed with refreshments.

The students then recreated a popular ‘Doordarshan’ programme of yesteryears that comprised a medley of old movie songs and a foot tapping dance to hit songs of the 1950s and 1960s. They also presented a comical mimicry of advertisements of yore! The residents of the place then joined the children to sing and tap. A heartwarming round of ‘passing the parcel’ followed.

It was a delightful experience for the students and the hosts equally.
