CITIZENSHIP PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES AT TIS SS in JULY 2023 CLASSES- 6 TO 10
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
A responsible citizen consciously participates in the common destiny with fellow citizens respecting the dignity of each individual and the nation's unity. He or she knows his or her individual role in the community, state and country, and has a role in making the world a better place to live in.
The Citizenship curriculum is a part of socialisation, growing up to learn the values of service to others, and learning to protect trees, water, animals and birds. It is a learned obligation to society, others in the community and even those different from us.
The Indian School-Second Shift conducted various activities in July'23 for good citizenship with enthusiastic participation of the students of classes 6 to 9.
Students of class 6 were made aware about the legacy of learning and education at Nalanda University. Through various videos and research work, students learnt about its importance, significance in modern times and its Buddhist roots as a centre of learning.
Class 7 created brochures on various cities depicting their history, climatic conditions, places to visit and the best food to eat. They wrote about Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s inspirational and motivational quotes for a positive and successful life on the occasion of his death anniversary.
Some students also documented interviews with domestic staff who help at home, based on their learning of migrant labourers.
Through virtue chart-making activity, the students of class 8 listed their traits and values based on various situations and challenges they manage at home and at School. They also designed acrostic poems related to the different moral values they identify themselves with.
Class 9 made greeting cards based on trees that are sacred to the tribals of India. Class 10 painted bags and wrote slogans on them. Both classes also presented a Ted Talk on SDG 7- Affordable and Clean Energy. They designed posters and wrote steps taken to ensure access to clean and affordable energy, the key to the development of agriculture, business, communication, education, healthcare and transportation.
These activities give a voice to the students, enabling them to make a positive contribution by developing the knowledge and experiences needed to claim their rights and understand their responsibilities.
