TFS in pursuit of an eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival that marks the birth (rebirth) of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This 10-day long festival was celebrated with a lot of vigour and enthusiasm at The Indian School-Second Shift.
Children at TFS are always concerned about the fast-degrading environment caused by pollution. In a bid to reduce the environmental damage and refusal to join the polluting bandwagon, students of Pre-Primary crafted small Ganesha idols using non-toxic clay stuffed with tulsi seeds for an eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi.
On the 11th day of Ganesh Chaturthi, the organic idols of Lord Ganesh were carried out for visarjan where the entire Preschool and Pre-Primary department had gathered. Ms. Charul Varma narrated the story of how Ganesha, the son of Parvati, acquired his elephant head. The audience listened in rapt attention. The air rung out with Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi LavkarYa! to the vigorous accompaniment of the dholki.

The 'visarjan' was a unique one though! Instead of immersing in water, the idols were placed in an earthen pot and watered until they crumbled into soil as a bed for the tulsi! The students can now eagerly look forward to the germination of the tulsi seeds that were carefully stuffed in the idols! As they turn to saplings and plants, no child fell short of enthusiasm that Ganpati will remain in our homes even after visarjan!
Just like all good things have to come to an end, TFS concluded the celebrations with the prayer that next years Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will be an even ' greener' one.
