Special Assembly on Peace and Justice by class 4

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

Mahatma Gandhi

A special assembly on ‘Peace and Justice’ was presented by the students of class 4 on 30th January, 2020 on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day. The children sought to convey the message that Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. A skit on the hardships faced by refugees and how justice must prevail, moved the audience. They touched upon various aspects of peace, as extrapolated by world personalities in India, Ireland and Africa. Students dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, Betty Williams, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King spoke about ‘their’ contributions to world peace. Next followed Bapu’s favourite bhajan, ‘Vaishnava Janato’, sung by the choir reiterating the message. In conclusion, a skit on how we can together build the India of the dreams and aspirations of our dear departed heroes of the freedom struggle. The children then showcased a token peace walk holding aloft placards with messages like ‘Peace is Patriotic’ and ‘Peace begins with a smile’. Dove shaped badges were distributed to the children to take home as a token of the learning. It was thus a special effort of the students to spread the message of peace, justice and non-violence.
