Preschools field-trip to the Metro Museum and India Gate

Preschool students visited the Delhi Metro Museum and India Gate on 24th November, 2015. Around a hundred students accompanied by their teachers boarded the buses to their destination.

Situated in the Patel Chowk Metro station itself, this compact museum traces the journey of the Delhi Metro from its conception to implementation and the challenges faced along the way to the present day, when it carries millions of people every day to their destinations.

The tiny tots were shown around the museum and their anticipation reached its peak on seeing the engineering marvels behind it. On display were the milestone moments during the construction of the Delhi Metro, including models of Metro coaches, and historic photographs. The little visitors were awestruck on seeing a model of the Tunnel Boring Machine. Wow! was a common cry that echoed as they walked through! The fascinating technological features in operation at Metro stations seemed to captivate the children. Some of them even reflected upon the thought that we often enjoy the ride in metro, but never think about the challenges, hard work, planning, and effort that went into its construction!

After seeing a quick exhibit of how a modern Metro is built, we headed to the India Gate. The magnificent monument garnered special mention from the children as they looked up to see how remarkably high it was! The teachers informed the little ones about the historical importance of this war memorial that was designed by Edwin Lutyens in memory of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the First World War. Students were then made to sit comfortably in the garden adjacent to India Gate where lunch boxes flipped open for some quick bites and munchies. The weather was nice and sunny and the children enjoyed themselves. Finally we set off on our buses to get back to School. The chatter in the bus was excited as it had truly been an enriching experience for the children.
