ENVIRONMENT WEEK activities (1-5 JULY 2025)

The Indian School – Second Shift observed ‘Environment Week’ from 1st to 5th July 2025 with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to fostering environmental awareness and responsibility across all grade levels. The week-long celebration featured a series of interactive and engaging activities aimed at helping students connect with nature and understand their role in protecting the environment.

To deepen the learning experience, expert-led sessions were held through the week. On 2nd July, Ms Preeti Phutela delivered an insightful session on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the students of classes 6 to 10, highlighting how simple actions can support a more sustainable future. On 4th July, Ms Vasudha conducted a dynamic Musical Storytelling session for classes 1 to 5, followed by a creative Talk and Drawing activity for classes 6 to 8 that encouraged students to express their connection with nature through art. The same day, Ms Usha Chhabra led a workshop on Creative Writing for classes 6 to 10, where students explored environmental themes through stories, poems, and essays.

The youngest learners of Pre School (PS) enjoyed hands'-on activities like Leaf Printing and Rock Painting, where they explored the textures and patterns found in nature. Pre Primary (PP) students participated in a planting activity titled “Plant a Promise” where they reused old containers to pot seeds and learned the importance of reuse and nurturing life.

Primary students engaged in a wide variety of activities. Class 1 participated in an environmental quiz, crafted themed artwork, and conducted a “Show and Tell” focused on endangered animals such as sea turtles and tigers. Class 2 designed Earth-shaped Environment Day cards with thoughtful messages. Class 3 students adopted seedlings as part of the “Plant Pal Challenge”, pledging to care for their young plants. Class 4 became “Nature Detectives” as they explored their surroundings during an Eco Explorers Quest. Class 5 participated in an Upcycling Craft Workshop, repurposing old materials into useful objects.

Students in the middle and senior classes undertook more complex activities. Class 6 viewed documentaries on issues like pollution and climate change and shared interesting facts about animals and plants using visuals. Class 7 students constructed bird feeders and bee hotels, supporting biodiversity through creativity. Class 8 demonstrated an understanding of renewable energy by building functional solar ovens with cardboard and foil. Class 9 showcased sustainable fashion in an Upcycled Fashion Show, while class 10 participated in a challenging and informative Group Eco Quiz.

Overall, the week was an enriching blend of learning, creativity, and action. Through diverse experiences, students from PS to Class 10 developed a stronger sense of environmental stewardship. Environment Week 2025 successfully instilled in every learner the importance of small yet impactful efforts in creating a greener, more sustainable future.
