Pre School to class 5 observe a rich Self-Discovery Week

Following School tradition, Session 2024-25 commenced with Self-Discovery Week. The initiative is a step to helping l students identify inherent inclinations early and the celebration of these inclinations and aptitudes. Likewise, the students participated in a multitude of activities in the week-long event that helped them to discover themselves and to introspect upon their strengths and weaknesses.

The tiny tots of Pre school began their academic journey with introducing themselves and getting to know  their classmates and teachers. They learnt about some basic skills like being neatly dressed and maintaining hygiene, systematically packing their belongings for School and always awaiting one's turn in a queue. They participated in fun activities where they were guided to identify and enact their favourite cartoon characters. They also made little welcome cards, which made their day a memorable and fun filled one. Other activities in the week included building blocks, matching pictures and jigsaw puzzles to develop cognitive skills. These activities aimed at introducing the children to a world of creativity and innovation, and enrich their expressive skills from the grassroot level.

The little ones of Pre primary had an amazing Self Discovery Week as they explored their artistic skills through painting colourful pictures of themselves, went on a nature walk, enjoyed fun mathematical activities and listened to wonderful stories. They also did fun experiments like mixing colours and making new colours. They also had lots of fun with a role play of their favourite fairy tale characters. The children explored novel areas of learning through engaging and exciting playway methods.

The young ones of class 1 did craft with recycled buttons, whereby they pasted these old buttons creatively to make outlines of their names in English. They participated in ‘Family Portrait’, an activity for which they carried a picture from home. The students took turns to introduce their family members and spoke a few lines on how they spend their time at home. Students also did a ' Show and Tell' activity on their favourite fruit. The objective was to develop the students intra personal and inter personal skills through enjoyable activities.

Several stimulating activities were conducted for the students of class 2. They began Self Discovery Week by writing about themselves, describing themselves using adjectives like honest, friendly, helpful, etc. The students drew and spoke about their favourite fruit. They also learned to construct images using shapes and creatively drew pizza slices, clocks, boards, etc. The students were also given the task to complete an incomplete picture drawn by the teacher on the board and each student presented a different picture based on their vivid imaginations!

The students of class 3 took part in all the activities with lots of zeal and enthusiasm. They created, and narrated in class, a story on the topic, 'If I were a Super Hero’. They innovatively presented the story with beautiful posters as props. The children enhanced their knowledge of Hindi by writing a few lines on their favourite place, animal and flower in Hindi. They dived into the world of shapes as they drew self portraits using different 2D shapes, which showcased an amalgamation of art and mathematical concepts. They also explored their planet by researching and writing a few fun facts about Earth. The students were introduced to the idea of art and subject integration throughout the special  week, thus opening up a whole new world of imagination and enthusiasm.

The zealous students of class 4 made a vision board, where they jotted down their hopes and dreams. This helped them to reflect on what they want in the future. They wrote about six habits that they would inculcate in their daily lives to become better versions of themselves. Exploring the relationship of the self with the environment, the students made hand tracings on colourful sheets and presented their ideas of how they will contribute to the environment. The students  made a travelogue based on any 4-5 neighbouring states visited by them, along with a timeline, briefing about each visit. Through activities related to reflection and introspection, the students understood the importance of the knowledge of oneself.

Class 5 also actively participated in the week’s interesting activities. With the help of magazine cut-outs, scissors, and glue, the students designed their own collage portraits. To make it more fun, they added cut outs of words and pictures that they thought would best describe them. They also explored how travel has an impact on the personality and holistic growth. They also wrote about their travel experiences in Hindi. In a self-reflection activity, the children created a 'Me Tree', where each section of the tree represented a different area of reflection about oneself and the people around. They put down their thoughts by doodling and drawing.  They learnt to make a timeline, and made their own timelines based upon five major events that took place in their life and also pasted pictures reminiscing the same. The students discovered how they felt about themselves and about the world around them.

Thus, the young learners undertook the journey of self discovery by engaging in consciously designed activities to broaden their horizons and give them a vision to find more about themselves.
