Mathematics Week across the classes

"Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." Albert Einstein

Mathematics expresses itself everywhere in almost every facet of life—in nature all around us and in the technology in our hands. Mathematics develops computational skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The Indian School-Second Shift realises this and strives to ensure that our young learners assimilate this knowledge. Mathematics Week was organised to mark the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the ace mathematician of India. He was the world famous mathematician who made remarkable contributions in branches of Mathematics.

To create awareness and celebrate the occasion at School, the mathematics department organised an array of activities over a week to reinforce student interest in mathematical concepts. Teachers discussed the importance of Math and how the use of it makes our life work. Students participated in all the events in great zeal and enthusiasm.

The children of Pre school Sparrow celebrated Math Week by learning about numbers. They did an activity on sequence counting. Pre Primary Dove  enthusiastically focussed on backward counting and understanding place value.
Class 1 engaged with activities like sequencing the months of a year, reading time on analogue clocks, and participating in a Mental Math Quiz.
Classes 2 and 3 students undertook an art-integrated activity in class in which they created a robot using recycled 3D material and decorations. Class 4 designed their own 'Figure me Out' puzzle and conducted a quiz in class.

The students of class 5 integrated art and mathe as they made a pie chart based on their daily routines and analysed the time spent on the different activities during the day. Class 6 students conducted flip classroom sessions in the primary classes and covered concepts like fractions, division, abacus, etc. They also did an Ink Blot Devils - Symmetry Patterns activity and composed beautiful, attractive patterns.

Class 8 was engaged in a variety of creative and educational activities. They made tangrams using colour paper and created pie charts, representing their daily activities to explore geometric shapes and data visualisation. Class 9 worked on graph paper to map India, marking the coordinates of various places and integrating math with geography.
Class 10 participated in a math quiz on topics ranging from algebra to geometry. This not only tested their knowledge but prompted peers to clarify concepts to each other. These activities fostered a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts in a fun and interactive way.

The purpose of Mathematics Week was to teach students about the subject simply and joyfully. Students were intrigued by the exciting world of Mathematics.
