JUGALBANDI 2021 -Art speaks the Soul of its culture

The Indian School- Second Shift hosted its online annual inter-school music and dance competition titled ‘Jugalbandi-2021’ on 11 December 2021. The theme of the competition was United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal number 13- ‘Climate Change’ and SDG number 15- ‘Life on Land.’ 

The competition was open to students of classes 6 and 7. Students from 17 eminent schools from Delhi and outside, like Delhi Public School, Kalyanpur, Mount Carmel School, New Delhi, Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram, Tagore International School, New Delhi etc participated in the same. The event was graced by our Vice Chairperson, Dr Mrs Nayana Goradia who directed the participants to always stay positive and do their best in all their endeavours. Acting Principal Ms Sukhmeen Kaur Cheema motivated the students with her motivating advice.

The dance competition was an amalgamation of the folk dances of North and South India. Whereas, the second event of music consisted of performance through a coalescence of folk songs of North India only.

The entries received from the participating schools were judged by a distinguished panel of judges who are accomplished individuals in the fields of music and dance. The vocal music was judged by Mr Jaywardhan Dadhich, classical vocalist and Mr Neel Ranjan Mukherjee, Hawaiian guitarist. The dances were judged by Ms Ritusri Chaudhary, Kathak exponwnt and Mr. Himanshu Srivastava, Bharatnatyam exponent.

The programme came to a close in a virtual closing ceremony held on 12 December 2021.The students presented remarkable performances showcasing their skills at dance and music. Our students bring the hosts, presented the Dastangoi, a 13th-century storytelling art form.The event concluded with the declaration of results and a vote of thanks.

The first position in the dance category was a tie between Sunbeam English School, Bhagwanpur, Varanasi, UP and The Indian School-Second Shift. The second position was secured by Birla Vidya Niketan, New Delhi and the third position by Lotus Valley International School, Noida. 

In the music category, the first position was secured by Sunbeam English School, Bhagwanpur, Varanasi, UP, the second position  by The Indian School and the third by Tagore International School, East of Kailash.

The event was judged on the basis of creativity, integration of theme and overall presentation. It was an unforgettable experience with some wonderful memories for all.
