INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass;
It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
-Vivian Greene
Dance is an art form that helps express the emotion of life and relaxes the mind, body and soul. International Dance Day is celebrated every year on 29 April throughout the world to pay tribute to this distinctive form of performing arts. This year too, we celebrated this exciting day with the same energy and vigour like we always do.
The students of Pre School celebrated this day virtually, dressed up in costumes relating to different countries and performed the signature steps.
The Pre Primary children also dressed up as different animals and performed a dance to The Animal Song! They wore masks and headgear of different animals and performed the movements of these animals to soundbeats.
The children were explained the importance of dance and how it allows people to be more active and develop creative skills. A presentation on various dance forms was shown to the students. The little ones thoroughly enjoyed the foot-tapping music with freestyle dancing.
This year, the theme for this special day is “Purpose of Dance”. The children of the senior classes were told about the origin, history and significance of this occasion. They were also told about the history of various dance forms across the world through the medium of videos and verbal interaction during the online classes. Students were explained why this day is celebrated globally, namely to mark the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of the modern ballet. Students were told about the benefits of dance and were also asked to express their views about this important day.
The students appreciated the richness of this art form and concluded how dance allows us to transform our thoughts into movements.
