Earth Day Celebrations - making a difference

What would the world be, once bereft, of wet and of wilderness? Let them be left, O let them be left; wildness and wet; Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet 22nd April, Earth Day, is all about appreciating the uniqueness of our planet Earth, while at the same time educating us about what we have and what we are losing by acting in ways that arent environmentally friendly. The day also reminds us that we need to take action now to protect our environment before its too late.

The students at The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated Earth Day 2016 with a myriad of energised eco-activities spanning two days. A workshop on Segregation of Waste and Recycling was conducted for Pre-Primary and classes I to V. It aimed at explaining the importance of recycling in order to manage waste effectively. The primary classes were abuzz with activities on 22nd April and celebrated World Earth Day. The School corridors were filled with ecologically poignant artworks, reading "Go Green'' and "Save our planet Earth, by students of primary classes over the past week. A special assembly marked the event wherein the teachers dressed up as trees, a CNG bus, water, a bulb, a tiger, and a recycle bin, walked the ramp in an effort to spread the message of saving environment! The enthusiastic preschoolers contributed with their earth-helping ideas and agreed to prioritise earth protection. Save Our Earth, a protest march by students of classes I to V for motorists and pedestrians on the BRT corridor was an attempt in sensitising the public at large, to the importance of preserving our planet. Screaming posters and placards with catchy slogans held aloft by our students accompanied by the rapid and rhythmic drumbeats of the School band successfully caught the attention of pedestrians and motorists alike. As a part of Earth Day classroom-'green activities, students of Preschool and Pre-Primary decorated reusable cloth bags that come in handy. Our tiny tots pooled their bit for Earth Day by spreading the valuable message of Say No to Plastic Bags with their own little creative hands. These bags were then distributed in nearby shops. The distribution of potted plants to students was another effort under the Schools citizenship programme. The events organised extensively helped in orienting the young minds to develop a continued compassion for Mother Earth and thus making a difference!
