Dussehra Celebrations
“Celebrate the victory of the forces of good over evil.
Dussehra, the festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil, was observed virtually on October 13, 2021, at all class levels with a lot of zeal and fervour.
The students of Pre school presented a puppet show on the Ramayana. The students sang songs and crafted masks of the mythological characters of the great epic. The students of Pre-Primary were told a story with the help of puppets which conveyed the message of the victory of good over evil, an important lesson for every child. This was followed by the singing of the “Ram Stuti” by Shankyani and Gaurika. The students also engaged in Dussehra craft.
The students of classes 1 and 2 were taught to craft the image of Ravana using Origami. In line with the values associated with the festival, the students were prompted to describe their negative feelings which they wish to rid themselves of, like anger, jealousy, greed and the ego. An audio-visual clip was shown to the students depicting the mythological story of Dussehra.
The students of class 3 presented a short assembly on the occasion of Dussehra. The students talked about the mythological characters of Ramayana and sang songs. The assembly ended with a dance performance.
The students of classes 4 and 5 made posters and models on Dussehra using biodegradable material.
An interactive session was held for the students of classes 6 - 8 whereby aspects of festivals at large i.e., the noise pollution and environmental impact caused by the burning of crackers was discussed. Students shared their observations of how the noise pollution has negatively impacted the stray dogs in their neighbourhoods. This discussion made the students conscious of the importance of festival as well about being a responsible member of society. It helped the students to comprehend that crackers create pollution which builds up and contributes to major environmental setbacks such as global warming, natural calamities, etc.
The celebration of Dussehra was a lesson in enrichment about our rich Indian culture and values.
