Diwali special assembly by class 1

The festival of lights is indeed a precious time to celebrate with our loved ones. Also known as Deepawali, this festival is a very auspicious occasion that is celebrated with much fervour, cheer and joy. Diwali symbolises positive and happy spirits. Historically, this festival marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after He, Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshman spent 14 years in exile in the forest.

The exhilaration and that Diwali brings is unmatchable. To add to the festive fervour, the students of class I at The Indian School-Second Shift presented a virtual Diwali assembly on 2 November 2021.

The assembly commenced with the students emphasising the importance of saying ‘No to Crackers’ and urged the audience to be sensitive to the environment by celebrating a clean and cracker- free Diwali. This was followed by a skit in which students  dressed like a bird, an animal and Mother Earth, depicted the harm caused to them by bursting crackers. The skit concluded with a beautiful message which stated ‘ Jab diyon se ho sakta hai ujiyaara, toh kyu le hum pataakho ka sahaara.’

A short poem was recited to emphasise the need to celebrate a peaceful, green Diwali and to save the earth from excessive noise and air pollution. The assembly came to a close with a traditional l dance performed on a devotional song dedicated to Lord Ram.

The young students painted clay diyas and decorated them with recycled materials like discarded buttons, bindis, sequins and pencil shavings. They were urged to gift these diyas decorated by them. After all sharing and caring is what Diwali is essentially about.
