B.R. Ambedkar Remembrance Day Celebrations

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was a social reformer, politician, and jurist who fought for the rights of Dalits, and other marginalized communities. He was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, a small military cantonment in the central provinces (now in Madhya Pradesh) of British India.

Ambedkar faced discrimination and humiliation at every step of his life due to his caste. He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the marginalised communities, especially the Dalits. He fought against caste discrimination and for the rights of the underprivileged sections of society, advocating equality for all.

Despite facing numerous obstacles in his life, Ambedkar went on to become one of the most respected leaders of his time. He was the first Dalit to obtain a college education in India and went on to study law at Columbia University in the United States. He played a key role in drafting the Indian constitution and is regarded as the “Father of the Indian Constitution,” He was the first law minister of independent India.

On this day, people across India pay tribute to Dr Ambedkar and celebrate his contributions to Indian society. Various events and seminars are organised to discuss his life and works, and promote his vision of social justice and equality. The day is also an occasion to reflect on the values and principles that Dr Ambedkar stood for, and to renew our commitment for building an inclusive and just society.

The students of The Indian School- Second shift celebrated this day by conducting various activities. Classes VI & VII learned about Dr Ambedkar's contribution to fightinequality through a class presentation. The students of classes VIII & IX sketched portraits of Dr Ambedkar and wrote the Preamble showcasing their calligraphy skills.

Ambedkar’s legacy continues to inspire millions of people in India and around the world. His tireless efforts to bring social and political change have earned him a place of great respect and honour in Indian history.
