World Students' Day

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam served as India's 11th President from 2002 to 2007, and is also known as the "Missile Man" of India. He is also noted for his modest and courteous demeanour toward people, earning him the title "People's President." He was instrumental in the 1998 Pokhran-II tests, which were led by the Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1981, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990, and the Bharat Ratna in 1997, India's highest civilian honour.

Dr Kalam had a newfound affinity for students, and his birth anniversary is observed as "World Students' Day." During one of his interviews, he said “If the people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me.”

The late President always partook of every opportunity to teach, especially children, wherever he went.

The Delhi State Science Teachers' Forum observed World Students' Day on October 15, 2022, to mark the occasion. Teachers from the south district were invited to attend the event through the circular received from the education department.

The event was hosted by Kerala Education Society Sr. Sec. School, R.K. Puram. The programme began with a lecture delivered by key speaker Shri Srijan Pal Singh, renowned physicist and close friend of Dr Kalam, who enlightened everyone on Dr Kalam's work and aspirations. This was followed by an address by chief guest Shri Himanshu Gupta, I.A.S. and Director of Education, and other distinguished individuals.

The platform highlighted Dr Kalam's vision. The audience was also informed about India's development during Dr Kalam's involvement as well as the contributions of other notable Indian scientists to the cause of humanity.

The event concluded with a pledge to encourage more young citizens to become like Dr Kalam in order to instill lasting scientific and intellectual values in future generations.
