World Peace Day observed at The Indian School-Second Shift- 21st September, 2017

Peace begins with a smile - Mother Teresa.

Through the past couple of days, the children of classes 2,3,4 and 5 reflected on the meaning of Peace and how it can be achieved. They were shown how building peace one day at a time, can create real-world benefits. Students explored this important idea as they drew peace symbols of the International Day of Peace.

The Indian School-Second Shift organised a special assembly conducted by class II-B. The children started the assembly by introducing the occasion, followed by an explanation of what the word PEACE stands for. The audience shared their ideas with their teacher, Ms. Yahvi Seth. They came up with words like meditation, calm, non-violence, caring etc. It was extremely heartwarming to hear the responses of the children who were able to convey the all-encompassing spirit of World Peace so simply. One of the 5 year olds even volunteered ' Peace is sharing my tiffin!'

As the assembly progressed, the symbols and the colours of peace were introduced. The learners enjoyed the PPT shown to them on the various facets of peace. Later they sang along with the choir to the song, Imagine there is no heaven.

The highlight of the assembly was the signing of a verbal peace treaty by all the students and their teachers. Class II children happily swayed in unison to the beats of the song, Heal the world and make it a better place to be, and the students sang along. The special assembly ended on a very important note where the children pledged to spread the message, Lets stop fighting and spread twinkling smiles and happy hearts.

The Indian School-Second Shift shared its views about World Peace by writing these on the Peace Wall. It was a well presented assembly which depicted the meaning of World Peace and sensitised the children to the cause.

On the occasion, the older students got the opportunity to spread the message of peace even across our borders. A video conference was organised in collaboration with the Roots' Millennium School, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Here the students began the session by introducing themselves and then went on to interact about Peace. Our students presented the true meaning of peace with this Acronym: P People united around the world E End all wars and Conflicts A All citizens helping each other C Countries shaking hands E Everyone living in Harmony

The students on both sides of the screen shared how they celebrated this special day at School. They shared the different crafts they prepared on the occasion like white doves, smileys, heart badges etc.

What does Peace mean to you? This was aptly volunteered by several of the 9 and 10 year olds present. Peace is meditation, Peace is sharing our things with our friends, ' Peace is non-violence' and so on.

The session concluded by the students of TFS singing the beautiful song We shall overcome' as Hum honge kamyaab.

We look forward to joining with the wider community again as we continue to strive for Peace one day at a time.
