World Ozone Day activities across the classes
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed. -Mahatma Gandhi
The Indian School-Second Shift observed World Ozone Day with the slogan ‘Ozone for Life’, to spread awareness among students about the pivotal importance of the ozone shield for life on Earth, its gradual depletion and the need to search for possible solutions to preserve it.
The science department took steps to merit this day by organising different activities for the students of classes I to VIII. The students of class I enriched their knowledge by watching related videos. The teachers shared the importance and ways of protecting the ozone layer by recycling, planting, and avoiding the excess use of electronics that will have a negative effect on the precious layer.
The students pledged to protect the ozone layer by practicing sustainable ways of living. The students of class II planted trees in honour of World Ozone Day. They gained knowledge about the significance of preserving our planet and the ozone layer. Through this activity, participants learned the value of environmental stewardship, teamwork, and the necessity of protecting the planet for the coming generations.
The students of classes III and IV participated in a poster making activity, highlighting the need for ozone layer protection. The students of class 5 wrote acrostic poems on World Ozone Day. They discussed the importance of the ozone layer which acts as a shield and protects the earth from harmful radiations. They also shared their concerns about the depletion of the ozone layer and ways to protect it.
The students of classes VI and VII were advised to use environment-friendly cleaning products, prohibit the use of nitrous oxide and buy air conditioning and refrigeration equipment that do not use HCFCs as a refrigerant. They were also advised to discourage the use of private vehicles and use public transport, carpool, or cycle. The students were informed about the stratospheric layer which shields the earth from the sun's ultraviolet rays.
The students of class VIII had an interactive session in class on this year's theme of World Ozone Day, i.e. fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change. They suggested ways in which they can do their bit to save the ozone layer from any further damage. They also made posters with slogans written on them to spread awareness and to appeal to everyone to protect the ozone layer.
We are the agents of environmental preservation. Let’s join hands to preserve life on this planet by protecting the Ozone Shield. Let’s take an oath to protect the Ozone layer and save the earth on World Ozone Day.
“Earth without OZONE is like a house without roof”
“Ozone, not a layer but a protector”
