World Athletics Day celebrations

World Athletics Day, celebrated on May 7, was established by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). Sports and exercise can help people avoid disease and maintain good health. World Athletics Day encourages people to take up fitness, especially athletics, to stay healthy.
The World Athletics Day celebration was held at The Indian School-Second Shift between 2 and 6 May, 2023a wherein the students participated in numerous activities like the Cones Relay , 60 m dash Hurdle Race , Shot Put Throw , 100*4 relay , Standing Broad Jump, etc.
Students of classes Pre School – 2 participated in the Cones Relay, which promotes teamwork and communication and boosts self-confidence and motivation.
For students of classes 3- 5 there was the Hurdle Race competition which is a great way to increase strength, flexibility, balance as well as for conditioning.
Classes 6 – 9 had multiple activities like the Shot Put, 100*4 Relay and Standing Broad Jump. Shot Put improves overall muscle strength and power . Throwing a shot Put requires precise coordination and balance, which can help improve overall body control and stability. Broad jumps help increase strength over time. The exercise tones the lower body from the calves to the glutes, strengthens the core and recruits the upper body as well.
Through these various activities, the students got to know about different kinds of sports and made them more confident. Students also developed a strong spirit of sportsmanship and respect.
