Workshop on Green and Clean Diwali

In line with the above thought, an online Citizenship Programme workshop was organised for the parents and students of The Indian School-Second Shift on 11 November, 2020. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Sangeeta Aswani, Citizenship Coordinator.
The objective of the workshop was to spread awareness about the harmful effects of pollution and instill a greater and more active sense of responsibility towards the environment.
The session commenced with Acting Principal, Ms. Sukhmeen Cheema, addressing the gathering. She shared her alarm about the worsening air quality index and its effects.
Soon after, Ms. Aswani shared her views on the present condition of the city and appealed to the assembly not to burn crackers on Diwali in order to curb pollution. She suggested that parents should entrust their children with some specific responsibility at home, such as decorating the home, planning on gifting plants and making rangolis this Diwali.
Ms. Aban Gandhi, PTA Secretary, also shared a few ideas on celebrating Diwali at home. She urged students to take the initiative in household chores as well as contribute to and support needy people.
Suhana of class 5 spoke about the significance of Diwali. She described the tendency of people at large, to purchase crackers and burst them for a momentary pleasure. She appealed that we must not burn crackers and instead, share what we have with the underprivileged members of our society.
It was a delight to see the active participation ofstudents as well at the assembly. They eagerly shared ways of celebrating Diwali by making creative torans and designing masks for their dear ones.
Anshika Patel of class 7, drew attention to the surging Covid 19 cases and the impact of pollution on the virus. She described Diwali as the festival of lights and cleanliness.
The session concluded with each one taking a pledge to be a more responsible individual this year and enthusiastically exchanging festival greetings.
