A comprehensive awareness session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was conducted for the teaching staff on 18 July 2026. The session aimed to strengthen teachers' understanding of the Act and reinforce their role in ensuring the safety, protection, and well-being of every child in the school.
The session covered the key provisions and objectives of the POCSO Act, highlighting its child-friendly legal framework for reporting, investigation, and speedy trial of offences against children. Teachers were informed about their mandatory responsibility to report any suspicion or disclosure of abuse and the legal implications of failing to do so.
Special emphasis was laid on recognising behavioural and emotional indicators of abuse, responding sensitively to disclosures, maintaining confidentiality, and creating a safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable seeking help. School protocols for reporting incidents, maintaining documentation, and coordinating with the appropriate authorities were also discussed in detail.
The session included an interactive discussion in which teachers explored practical situations, clarified doubts, and examined appropriate responses through real-life case scenarios. These discussions enhanced their understanding of child protection procedures and reinforced the importance of empathy, vigilance, and timely intervention.
The awareness programme was facilitated by Ms Sanjeeta Roy, Headmistress, who guided the participants through the legal provisions and school procedures related to the safeguarding of children.
The session concluded with a renewed commitment from the teaching staff to uphold the principles of child protection and ensure strict compliance with the POCSO Act. It served as a valuable capacity-building initiative, equipping teachers with the knowledge and confidence required to foster a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment for all students.
