Webinar for teachers- 'Recharge and Rejuvenate'

In support of the above thought, all the teachers at The Indian School-Second Shift and The Indian School were facilitated with an online webinar- ' Recharge & Rejuvenate' on Friday, 2 June 2021.

The webinar was conducted by Ms. Rama Sharma, head of Media & Public Relations, CBSE and member of the working group ‘Manodarpan’. The webinar was aimed at giving importance to self-care and happiness.

The session commenced with a welcome address. Ms. Sharma spoke predominantly about the tensity that the teachers as a community are taking to balance their professional responsibilities and their personal lives during the pandemic.

She acknowledged the level of multi-tasking that is being done by teachers, as mentors, counsellors, motivators, event managerz and educators.

She advised the teachers to stay propitious with effective planning to perform multitasking. She added the apt quotation - “An empty lantern provides no light", to relate to the teachers’ adverse situations and to bear upon them the need to understand the importance of self-care, self-care practices and mindfulness.

She enlightened teachers with the basics of well-being with ease by providing the ABC of it, i.e. A- Alert, B- Breathe, C- Calm down.

A book on ‘Mindfulness for Teachers written by Patricia A. Jennings was recommnded by her. She spoke of
breathing and open awareness. The book essentially helps readers to enter a mindful presence and allow them to refocus their attention.

Furthermore, Ms. Sharma suggested that schools work in partnership to help teachers manage their mental health. She proposed different ways to reach out to teachers and create a conducive environment by having a WhatsApp group, counselling workshops, physician on call, dietician, a yoga instructor, and a creative group to ensure mental health and wellness.

In the end, Ms Sharma concluded the session with  emphasising that, ‘Care and compassion are equally important to us as they are in giving to others’.
