TFS soaks in Independence Day fervour

Freedom in the Mind, Faith in the words Pride in our souls

To celebrate Indias 70th Independence Day, the children of The Indian School-Second Shift displayed their love and spirit for their country at a special assembly on 12th August, 2016.

The young audience sat engrossed while our confident comperes, Ms. Shikha Yadav, Ms. Kritika Negi, and Ms. Charul Varma regaled it with the story of how our country found its freedom.

The assembly commenced with a prayer by the School choir, followed by the all time favourite songs Ek Do Ek Do Badhte Kadam and Nanha Munna Rahi Hoons sung by the children of Pre-primary and Pre-school. Dressed in white kurtas and churidars, the tiny tots showcased their patriotism as they sang with pride in their voices.

Next, the children of Preschool clad in saffron, white and green performed a foot-tapping dance to the evergreen songs, Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka and Jai Ho. Adding to the atmosphere of national pride, our little ones from Preschool and Class 1, dressed as freedom-fighters, walked up to the stage and spoke out aloud the famous slogans for which our brave freedom fighters are remembered and celebrated. Rani LaxmiBai, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, and the revolutionary sepoy Mangal Pandey came alive in their innocent dramatisation. In their own small way the young ones tried to offer their gratitude and respect to the heroes who gave their lives for our countrys freedom.

Keeping alive the flame of patriotism, was a skit by the tiny tots of Pre-school depicting how Gandhiji led the Salt March. Thus was followed by a pledge and the song Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein. In the same spirit, scintillating dances on songs Jai Ho and Desh Mera Rangeela were performed by the students of Pre primary and Classes 4 and 5 respectively. Finally everybody stood for the national anthem as the School choir concluded the assembly.

Post-assembly, children of Pre School led a march, holding aloft placards with the catchy slogans, ' Vande Mataram, Jai Hind, and Satya meva Jayate. The slogans reverberated through the corridors. In the run up to the Independence Day celebrations, inter- house quiz competitions Incredible India were also conducted on many levels (Pre-Primary to Class 5). The quiz aimed at introducing the students to Indias rich culture and facts relating to the freedom movement, national symbols, our leaders, etc.

Indeed, it was a day of joy, a feeling of patriotism, of peace and unity in diversity, and undoubtedly no spirit remained un-ignited!
