TFS participated in the Global Climate Strike

Climate change is a major crisis now and if we dont understand the seriousness of the situation and act upon it right away, soon we will have no home!

On April 12th, 2019 the students of The Foundation Scho0ol made an active plea to the Union Government and other leaders of society demanding climate justice. It was a morning of revolt, unison and solidarity. All you could see outside the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change was young children vigorously demanding the environments protection. Students from various schools of all ages and backgrounds streamed out from their schools. Like most mass bunks, this was also planned. But unlike most mass bunks this was one trying to save the planet.

Loud slogans and posters with just one demand STOP CLIMATE CHANGE! The students, were determined to be heard after seeing their elders fail to deal with global pollution levels and subsequent climate change again and again. Children around the world have decided to take matters in their own hands.

The Foundationers too took to the streets. They were all prepared to convey their message through self-created slogans like, What do we want? CLIMATE JUSTICE. When do we want it? NOW! Banners and posters and an appeal for the minister too. All this was aimed only at one thing, to demand climate justice.

The students then shared their views about the crisis and the measures that must be taken. Meher Sagoi, Dhairya Saran, Aryan Panda and Rhea Grover were among the speakers. Shaurya Chakravarty and Dhairya Saran went into the ministry and met with Joint Secretary, Mr. Ritesh Singh. They presented him the upcycled scroll carrying the appeal on behalf of all Foundationers .

The appeal included: complete ban on single use plastic, climate justice, shift to green energies and technologies, waste segregation to be made mandatory, clean air and an efficient mass rapid transport system

Seeing and hearing the continuous demand of the students the Secretary finally stepped out and spoke to the children assuring them that their demands will be looked into with seriousness and steps are being taken to reduce climate change. He also told the students that he feels proud to be in a nation where the youth ahs decided to address such an issue.

Feeling assured the students decided to return to School. However they said that, returning doesnt mean ending the strike. They will continue to follow the situation and not stop until they are convinced that the environment is safe.

As accompanying teachers, we felt very proud to see these 11-12-year-old students on a hot summer morning, not demanding toys or holidays or fun things, but actually behaving so maturely, understanding the seriousness of a global issue like climate change and deciding to fight for it. Like they said the struggle is long and hard but we will go on till the very end, till the time climate is served justice!
