Annual Day 2026: Migration Journeys That Shape Us

The Indian School – Second Shift, along with its sister school, The Indian School, held Annual Day on 10 and 11 October 2026 on the theme “Migration: Journeys That Shape Us.” The event began at 6 pm on a vast open-air stage and showcased the School theme for the academic session 2026–2028 through music, dance, drama, and tableaux.

The programme was attended by parents, distinguished guests, School Chairman Mr Prafull Goradia, School Patron Dr (Mrs) Nayana Goradia, Chairperson of the School Managing Committee Ms Brinda Goradia Shroff, Governing Board member Ms Madhavi Divan, and PTA members.

Principal Ms Tania Joshi welcomed the guests and spoke about the School’s philosophy of “edutainment”, which is educating through entertainment. She described Annual Day as a living classroom where literature, science, art, and innovation came together to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and character. A brochure listing the performances and participants was also released.

The School Choir, with 184 voices and 14 instruments, opened the musical journey with a Ganesh Vandana, followed by Kabir’s “Kaha Se Aaya Hai, Kaha Hai Jaana”, “Somewhere Only We Know”, “Din Din Falak Par”, “Garaj Garaj”, and Punjabi folk songs reflecting the pain of Partition. A thought-provoking newsroom debate, “Migration: Crisis or Catalyst?”, further explored migration across centuries.

The main performance presented migration through powerful dance and drama sequences. These included the Cherokee displacement, the Holocaust, Partition, the arrival of the Parsis at Sanjan, the Cambodian Ramayana, and stories of Mumbai as a city of dreams. The haunting strains of “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music added a poignant touch, evoking hope and longing amidst loss. The grand finale, with nearly 1,500 performers, ended with “Musafir Hoon Yaaron” and received a standing ovation.

Principal Ms Joshi delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, scriptwriters, Vice Principal Dr Anu Singh, Head Teacher Ms Vandana Tewari, Headmistress Ms Sanjeeta Roy, PTA members, music and dance teams, AV and stage teams, and all teaching, non-teaching, and housekeeping staff for their dedicated efforts.

Annual Day was widely appreciated by parents as a memorable, energetic, and meaningful celebration. It was not only a display of student talent but also a valuable learning experience that encouraged teamwork, confidence, discipline, and collaboration.
