Teacher workshop on Inter disciplinary Project Approach

A workshop on "Interdisciplinary Project Approaches in Classes," by Dr Usha Ram, a National Awardee teacher, was held at our School on 11 September'24. The workshop aimed to familiarise our teachers with the principles of inter disciplinary teaching and project based learning, with the key objectives outlined in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and the National Education Policy (NEP).

Dr Usha Ram began the session by explaining the concept of inter disciplinary teaching, emphasising how subjects like science, mathematics, history, and literature can be interconnected to create a holistic learning experience.  She referenced key points from the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and National Education Policy (NEP) to underline the shift in educational focus. She also stressed that inter disciplinary projects allow students to understand real-world applications of knowledge, making learning more relevant and engaging.

At the end of the session, Dr Usha Ram initiated a hands'-on activity where teachers were divided into six groups, each consisting of teachers from different subjects such as English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Art. The objective of this activity was to apply the inter disciplinary approach by collaboratively working on a project.

Each group was asked to select a topic and integrate the perspectives of their respective subjects into a cohesive project. This exercise allowed teachers to explore how their subjects could contribute to the understanding of the chosen topic, and how they could design a project that would engage students in exploring multiple aspects of a theme.

The workshop was highly informative and practical. Teachers gained valuable insights into how to implement inter disciplinary teaching strategies in their classrooms, by focusing on collaboration, creativity, and real-world. The project work allowed teachers to experience the effectiveness of inter disciplinary learning, preparing them to foster a more engaging and integrated learning environment for their students. The teachers were encouraged to incorporate inter disciplinary projects into their regular curricula and collaborate more with colleagues across subjects.
