Teacher workshop on Creative Classrooms
Learn continually, there’s always “one more thing” to learn.
-Steve Jobs
Teacher mentorship programmes are vital for fostering the professional growth and development of educators. By encouraging collaboration, offering guidance, and promoting continuous learning, mentorship programmes help create a culture of excellence within schools, ultimately enhancing student learning outcomes. These programmes benefit not only novice teachers but also experienced educators who serve as mentors.
On May 27, 2024, nearly 80 teachers of Pre Primary to class 8 of The Indian School and The Indian School - Second Shift had the opportunity to refine their skills in the School auditorium. The resource person for the day was Dr Madhuri Parti, noted educationist with over two decades of experience in transforming educational frameworks and leading innovative schools.
The workshop's agenda focused on teaching methods that infuse the classroom with fun and joy. To engage every learner, methodologies must be innovative, requiring minimal input while delivering maximum outcomes. The speaker shared an intriguing example of using the game of Tambola in an educational context. Instead of calling out numbers directly, mathematical expressions can be effectively deployed. For instance, the number 22 can be announced as "the double of 11". Such engaging presentations help students with mental math and catch the attention of the entire classroom.
When planning lessons, it is crucial to elevate learners from merely understanding to a level of creativity. At the workshop, the participants unleashed their creativity and tapped into childlike spirit with a group activity based on the popular, 'Old MacDonald had a Farm'. Each group composed a verse depicting a specific quality of an animal and also designed a corresponding logo.
As the session concluded, the participants acknowledged that they had gained new perspective on delivering lessons with greater effectiveness.
