Teacher workshop-Academic Leadership Aliment Programme (ALAP) - NEP 2020

A one day workshop- Academic Leadership Aliment Programme (ALAP) on the theme Transforming Quality for Primary and Secondary Levels: Insights from NEP 2020 was organised  on 17 April 2024 at Pragyanam Auditorium, AICTE, New Delhi. The teachers of The Indian School-Second Shift, Mr Karmendra, Ms Tincy Kaur and Ms Parminder Kaur participated in the workshop.

The workshop was facilitated by Sh. Himanshu Gupta (Secretary CBSE), Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director NCERT, Professor Dhananjay Vice Chancellor DTU and other eminent educationists who addressed the workshop.

The session aimed at enhancing the understanding of participants with respect to pedagogical principles, technology integration, experiential learning methodologies, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill enhancement in school education, practical strategies for designing engaging learning experiences that promotes holistic development among students.

Dr Ashok Kumar Tyagi shared the importance of engaging students in the classroom with experiential learning so as to build concept clarity and create interest in learning. He also shared the rising number of dropouts from schools and suggested various methods such as inquisitive and experiential teaching methodologies to curb this.

While, Mr Himanshu Gupta, Secretary CBSE enlightened the gathering by sharing various practices to eliminate rote learning among students. He cited examples from Nalanda University, where the educational structure focused on the holistic development of students through a child-centric approach. He informed that through the introduction of the NEP 2020, a new reform will be established in the education sector and that the teachers will be trained for the same.

Mr Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director of NCERT laid emphasis on using Hindi as a  medium of teaching during early childhood in order to boost the understanding of students. He also stated that the other languages such as English, French etc. can be introduced at a later stage as the students will comprehend faster.

Prof J. S. Rajput, former Director of NCERT, delivered an insightful session on School Education Innovation and Skill Development, focusing on aligning the initiatives with the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP). The session aimed to shed light on the critical role of innovation and skill development in shaping the future of school education in India.

Mr Abhay Jere shared his views on nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among school students, highlighting various interventions and initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of innovation from a young age. The session covered topics such as the School Innovations Council, innovation ambassador training programmes, national policies for promoting  innovation, design thinking, and teacher training modules.

Later, Mr Ashok Kumar Thakur, former army officer, delved into various activities and teaching methodologies and shared practical examples to illustrate his points. He emphasised the significance of teacher-student relationships and elucidated the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in education. Furthermore, he discussed the concept of "learning to  know, learning to do", and elaborated on the Muni International School model.

Prof Dhananjay Joshi, founder and vice president of Delhi University, shared  his wealth of experiences in the realm of teaching, enriching the session with valuable insights garnered over the years.

The series of sessions provided a comprehensive exploration of key aspects that  contribute to shaping the teaching-learning experience among students. It underscored the significance of innovation, skill development, and holistic approaches that would enable the students to help build their concept, retain and implement it in daily lives.
