Talk on Math on Ramanujan birth commemoration
“An equation for me has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God.” Srinivasa Ramanujan
On 23rd December 2024, Delhi Public School, RK Puram, organised a thought-provoking talk titled “Talking Maths with Talking Maths” to celebrate the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. The event was attended by 5 students of classes 8 and 9 accompanied by our teacher, Mr. Karmendra.
The session began with an address by the chief guest, Mr BK Chaturvedi, who highlighted the significance of Ramanujan's work and its lasting impact on mathematics. Following this, the host Principal addressed the audience, eelaborating upon the connection between mathematics and the various arts forms. He beautifully explained how mathematical concepts and scientific principles are deeply embedded in every aspect of our lives, from the patterns of nature to the rhythm of movement.
The main speaker, Mr Anant Mudgal, a noted mathematician shared his fascinating journey through the world of mathematics, beginning with the inspiring story of Srinivasa Ramanujan. He shared insights into Ramanujan’s remarkable intuition and his contributions to the number theory. Mr.m Mudgal then explored the concept of mathematical proof, explaining how proof serves as the foundation of all mathematical reasoning. He also presented the students with several logic puzzles that encouraged them to think critically and apply their knowledge to solving complex problems.
In the final part of the session, Mr Mudgal discussed the importance of mathematics in shaping the future, addressing the growing role of mathematical innovations in science, technology, and beyond. His thought-provoking words inspired the students to see mathematics not just as a subject, but as a vital tool that will influence many aspects of our future world.
The session was a resounding success, with students leaving with a deeper appreciation of mathematics and its far-reaching applications. They were not only educated about the legacy of Ramanujan but also motivated to continue exploring the endless possibilities that mathematics offers. It was a highly enriching experience for all those involved, and the students learned a great deal about the power and beauty of mathematics.
