Swacchata Pakhwada on Gandhi Jayanti
"We can no more gain God's blessing with an unclean body than with an unclean mind. A clean body cannot reside in an unclean city."
— Mahatma Gandhi
The Indian School – Second Shift carried out a massive cleanliness drive, keeping with the Swacchata Pakhwada programme of the Government of India with the motto of 'Swacchta hi Sewa', on 1st October, 2023.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in our daily lives. We must understand the significant role of cleanliness in promoting good health and hygiene.
The theme of the Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 is 'Garbage Free India' and to observe the same, the teachers along with students of Middle School took part in a cleanliness drive. The students and teachers also raised awareness in the neighbourhood of School on how to segregate waste using blue and green dustbins. The prevention of dreadful diseases like typhoid, dengue, malaria and the role of good sanitation were explained by our students articulately.
The students participated in a campus cleaning activity as well. They cleaned up their School using brooms while wearing gloves and masks. They picked up wrappers, papers, dry leaves, etc., and segregated the waste in the proper dustbins. This activity made them learn the proper and judicious segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and their proper disposal.
The activities undertaken for Swachhata Pakhwada aimed to spread awareness among students to keep our surroundings clean for a healthy life and to keep away from diseases. The day was dedicated to emphasising the fact that every little effort counts and how each one of us is accountable for bringing a change in the mindsets of people around us.
This drive ended with a lesson for all that we must neither litter nor let others litter. We, at The Indian School-Second Shift, will initiate for cleanliness in ourselves, our families, our communities and our School for a clean and beautiful India. We pledge to make the world a better place to live and breathe.
