Special assembly on Rakshabandhan
On Wednesday, 2 August 2017, class I-B presented a special assembly on Rakshabandhan. As we know, this is the festival which celebrates the eternal love between brothers and sisters. The assembly was conducted in the School auditorium, where the entire class participated in great enthusiasm.
The assembly started with a couple of students coming up on stage to explain the significance of Raksha Bandhan, its period of occurrence on the calendar and the festivities associated it. Students were familiarised with the customs and rituals followed on Raksha Bandhan. Traditionally girls tie rakhis on the wrists of their brothers and offer them sweetmeats. In return the brothers promise protection and give their sisters gifts.
At The Indian School-Second Shift we believe in empowering our girls and as a symbol of our belief in gender equality, our boys tie rakhis on the girls too! Both therefore offer sweets and gifts to each other as a token of an everlasting bond.

It is our way also, of reminding our young citizens of tomorrow, of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagores call for freedom, where he entreated the brotherhood ( and sisterhood) of all Indians equally with rakhis to defeat the British .
The choir of the class then melodious sang, Aaya rakhi ka tyohar.
The values of love and protection was sensitively portrayed by the students. In fact the little audience seemed very receptive indicating they enjoyed the assembly.
