Special Assembly for Raksha bandhan by Pre primary Dove

The paths may change as life goes along, but the bond between a brother and sister remains ever strong.

A special assembly for Raksha bandhan was conducted by the students of Pre-Primary Dove on August 23, 2018. The occasion was filled with great enthusiasm and fervour, commencing with a prayer.

Raksha bandhan is a special occasion to celebrate the bond between brothers and sisters symbolised by the tying of a sacred thread, around the wrist of brothers.

At The Indian School-Second Shift, we believe that the bond of protection should not be gender specific and as a symbol of our belief in gender equality, we encourage children to tie a Rakhi on siblings and whoever you care about like a sibling irrespective of gender.

A medley of songs by the choir brightened the atmosphere where songs like Bhaiya mere rakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana and Behna ne bhai ki kalaai pe pyaar bandha hai expressed affection and bonding. Students spoke about the significance of the festival, its occurrence on the calendar and the festivities associated with it.

A meaningful skit about the occasion in which both a brothers and a sister tied rakhis on each others wrist taught values of equality and concern. An unusual gift was offered by the brother to his sister was a gift if enrolment at a self-defence academy so that she can learn to defend herself in times of need.

The assembly drew to a close with a traditional dance presented by the students.

The next day, all the Pre-Primary students joined in the celebrations by making colourful and creative rakhis in class.
