Special Assembly for Independence Day

Indias 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at The Indian School-Second Shift with much enthusiasm and fanfare on 14th August 2018, in the School auditorium. Earlier the national flag was unfurled by Mr. Lal Raisinghani, member of the School Managing Committee accompanied by the student council. The School choir sang on the occasion.

A special assembly was organised by students of classes IC and IV A,. They began the assembly with a note of gratitude for the brave hearts of our nation, our dear soldiers, who ably stand guard at our borders.

The stage was beautifully decorated with tricolour balloons and a string of fluttering paper flags. All students who had gathered on this special occasion each proudly held a handmade tricolour. In the backdrop, ran a presentation depicting the heroes of Indias struggle for independence. The national colours, patriotic melodies and the anticipation amongst the children lent a special ambience on the joyous occasion- one to rejoice and also to remember the responsibility that comes with it.

Kartik Mehra of class IV A greeted the audience and Bhavyansh of Grade IC spoke about the significance of the day. Suryanshi, Rudwik and Pakhi of class I C and Aradhya, Aarav, Siddhi and Abul of class IV A spoke about the freedom struggle. Students dressed in costume as freedom fighters- Chacha Nehru, Rani Laxmi Bai, Chandrashekar Azad Sardar Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Bhagat Singh and Gandhiji seemed to bring these heroes come alive. The students who participated in this tole play were: Vihaan, Riyansh Pant, Ransher , Kanak, and Uwain of Class I C.

Next the choir of Class 1C presented a medley of patriotic songs. This was followed by a mime on the theme- United We Stand, Divided We Fall presented by the students of class IV A. Students sat in rapt attention as they watched intently what the actions depicted. The School choir then presented another patriotic song, Hum Bache Hindustan Key. A lively dance performance with extremely graceful movements followed. The costumes were perfect for the occasion, white kurta-churidars and tri colour dupattas.

Ms. Susan Thomas addressed the assembly. She congratulated and wished everyone a Happy Independence Day and appreciated the efforts of all the students and teachers in putting together the rich assembly. She reminded the children of the importance of being worthy citizens of the nation.

Students took part in a quick on the spot quiz and seed flags were given to all students who answered questions. They were told about the importance of these seed flags.

The assembled audience stood in attention to sing the national anthem.
