A two-day exhibition on innovative teaching-learning materials (TLM) was conducted for pre-primary and primary teachers by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on 17 and 18 August 2023 at the Thyagaraj Stadium. The objective of the exhibition was to motivate school teachers to adopt activity-based and experiential learning.
The exhibition comprised stalls from the Directorate of Education School, MCD Primary School Delhi, Delhi Board of School Education and DIETs and SCERT, which displayed the teaching-learning materials developed by pre primary teachers of the DoE, MCD, and DBSE. The stalls of SCERT and DIET also exhibited the teaching-learning materials prepared by the faculty & pre service teachers. They presented various innovative ideas by utilising waste materials and eco-friendly resources to effectively engage children in classrooms.
Several participants from various schools across Delhi were present to view the exhibits. Ms. Garima of The Indian School-Second Shift attended the exhibition on 18 August.
Various interactive teaching aids were displayed at the exhibition which were definitely very useful for children, especially at the foundational stage of learning as they tend to stimulate multiple senses and require the active use of hands. The aids included a division machine, sand writing model, interactive board games, etc.
Many models were also exhibited to help children with special needs to understand concepts and improve their cognitive and motor coordination, and thus to practically promote inclusive education.
Using these interactive teaching aids in classes would surely help students to enhance their retention power and knowledge. It was a great learning experience for all the educators, and an enriching experience that helped them further enhance their teaching methods and improve their strategies, with greater focus on activity-based and experiential learning.
