Sarvodaya Diwas observed on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti

The Indian School – Second Shift observed Sarvodaya Diwas on 4th October 2025 with in enthusiasm and reverence. Dedicated to honouring grandparents and promoting the timeless principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the event was graced by Dr Nayana Goradia, esteemed member of the School Managing Committee, whose presence added to the solemnity and significance of the occasion.

The celebration commenced with a graceful performance of the Saraswati Vandana, invoking divine blessings and setting a serene and auspicious tone for the day. The rhythmic movements and devotional expressions of the performers filled the atmosphere with peace and positivity.

This was followed by an inspiring address by Headmistress, Ms Sanjeeta Roy, who emphasised the relevance of love, compassion, and Gandhian values in today’s fast-changing world. She spoke eloquently about the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren, describing it as a priceless source of wisdom, affection, and moral strength that nurtures family ties across generations.

The School choir then presented a melodious rendition of “Saadho... Mann Ka Maan Tyaago” which beautifully encapsulated Gandhian philosophy and resonated deeply with the audience.

Subsequently, students took to the stage to portray eminent national heroes such as Chandra Shekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Rani Lakshmibai, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Their confident performances, powerful dialogues, and patriotic spirit brought historical figures to life and filled the audience with patriotism and pride.

A vibrant dance medley set to “Bande Mein Tha Dum,” “Vande Mataram,” and “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye” showcased the students’ energy, rhythm, and coordination. The performances reflected unity, courage, and the enduring spirit of the nation.

Adding to the delight of the occasion, Ms Vanshika, Sports' Teacher, organised a series of engaging games for the grandparents, including ‘Guess the Retro Tune’, ‘Hit the Target’, and ‘Pass the Pillow’. These activities brought laughter, cheer, and a sense of togetherness, further strengthening the intergenerational bond. Several grandparents also shared heartfelt anecdotes, expressing their gratitude for being part of such a thoughtful celebration.

The programme concluded with a touching poetic tribute by Ms Rekha, followed by a formal vote of thanks. Guests were then treated to delicious Gujarati snacks and steaming cups of masala tea, which they enjoyed amidst warm conversations and joyful camaraderie.

The event was a heartfelt tribute to love, legacy, and the enduring Gandhian spirit that continues to inspire generations. It successfully fostered a deeper appreciation for family values, national pride, and the principles of truth, non-violence, and compassion.
