PS Orientation Programme 2016

The Orientation Programme for the parents of Pre-School children was held on the 2nd April 2016 . An orientation is held each year at the beginning of the academic session to familiarise parents with the ethos and philosophy of our School.

The programme began with tea in the front lawns of School, where a spread of tea-time bites were laid out on tables marked by section names. Parents were seen exchanging pleasantries with the Teachers and Heads of TFS. Soon after, the parents were guided to the auditorium for the solemn Diya Ceremony. A precious and momentous occasion for us at TFS, as parents were handed diyas to light and place on a specially decorated stand. The diyas were lit by the teachers, thus entering into a sacred and solemn partnership with the parents to bring up the children. The parents carried held the lamps on behalf of the children as the little flames gleamed upright. This is symbolic of the knowledge and wisdom we believe that our young adults will step out with to light the world, as it were, when they leave School.

After welcoming our guests the students of Class III and IV presented a short invocation dance, the Ganesh Vandana . This wonderful performance was followed by an address by Ms. Madhavi Divan, a member of the Governing Board. She described the several nuances of methods we apply at our School. She said, We prepare our children to meet global challenges and simultaneously ensure that they imbibe and retain their Indian sanskaras. She also briefly spoke of the concepts of self-discovery and spiral learning, so deeply ingrained in our curriculum.

Next on the schedule, was a medley of songs by the School choir. Going by the theme of the year Africa, they sang aloud Fungalafia, Ashey, Ashey a traditional African welcome which, translated, means, Our hearts are pure, our voice is true and with open arms we welcome you. This vibrant African song was followed by a spirited, patriotic song We shall overcome. Last but not the least, we had Hum Hain Superstar composed by our Hindi music teacher, Mr. Amit Vaid.

Ms. Susan Thomas, Head Teacher then presented a kaleidoscope of the School programme. Her message was followed by a pulsating performance to the ever popular Afro American, Michael Jackson song Black or White, once again connecting with the School theme of the year, Africa.

We should not judge a person by the colour of their skin but by their deeds, it doesnt matter if you are black or white. This song tells us that racism is yet to be fully eradicated from our lives. It is here we salute Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela who said All men are equal.

To conclude, a vote of thanks was proposed, after which everyone rose for the School Song followed by the national anthem.

Ms. Sitara Dingra.
