The educators worked in groups to discuss innovative practices that worked for them in a classroom, while keeping the following guidelines in mind:
? Physical Setting
? Attention grabber
? Tone
? Transition, changing activities
? Rules, routines
? Attendance
? Morning Ritual
? Afternoon dismissal
? Speaking/answering in class
? Collecting work/returning work or returning and distributing supplies
? Involving hyperactive child, inattentive child, crying child, wanting to go home child
? Aggressive
? Any situation- child bites, hits, abuses, touches inappropriately etc.
The educators came up with unique and novel ideas to manage these situations effectively eg. Using a behaviour modification chart, volume level tactic, rewarding the child with full attendance at the end of the week, welcoming children as they enter class, using hand puppets, using fingers to signal, wishing the children, teaching good manners in an entertaining way.
Ms. Cheema also spoke about the importance of meditation and yoga for both educators and the children. The session concluded with a valuable thought- 'Sometimes the thing your students need MOST her and now has NOTHING to do with whats on your LESSON PLAN.
