Primary takes an excursion to Gandhi Smriti

Just after Independence Day, on 21st August, 2015 the students of classes 1 , 2 and 3 were taken to Gandhi Smriti, at Old Birla House on 5, Tees January Marg, which is the sacred place where Mahatma Gandhi's epic life ended on 30 January 1948.

A larger-than-life statue of the Father of our nation standing besides a little boy and a girl holding a dove in their hands as if emerging out of the globe greeted us. It seemed to symbolise the Mahatma's universal concern for peace and brotherhood.

The children looked on in awe as they viewed Bapus priceless possessions, his charkha, spectacles, watch etc. Some of them were eager to try their hands at spinning the charkha too! Footsteps etched in the floor from Bapu's room led us to the prayer grounds where he held a mass congregation every evening. It was here that the assassins bullets felled Gandhiji.

The tour of the museum was followed by a question-answer session where the children were asked questions relating to Gandhiji. Most of the children were extremely animated and enthusiastically offered answers! They had by now been armed with knowledge, first in the classroom and now for real at the museum! But naturally they wanted to show they knew too!
