Plantation of an urban forest at the School eco park

The grass is always greener where you water it."

On Saturday July 29, 2017, students of classes 4,5 and 6 visited the School eco park to kick off a plantation drive for an urban forest at the park. As we reached our destination around 10 am, the clouds drifted across a clear blue sky making the freshly washed, lush green plantation all the more beautiful and a welcome change from the crowded feel of Delhi.

The students planted saplings like the Jamun, night blooming Cestrum, Pomegranate, Mulberry and shrubs like the Lantana in carefully planned pits, readied in concentric circles. They enjoyed planting the saplings, filling up the pits with soil and then watering them. We were able to plant more than 30 saplings.

It was discussed how the plants will soon grow as the monsoon has already kicked in and the soil is rejuvenated and ready. In the years to come, we will have our own urban forest with about 500 to 600 trees and shrubs and their captive bio diversity of butterflies, birds, bees and insects!

The students enjoyed time for free play in the fresh air. They particularly enjoyed the company of quacking ducks and hens and the scurrying rabbits!

It was a memorable experience. The children were proud and happy that they had made a contribution for a greener environment which is a desperate call of our times.

We boarded our bus to return with a promise to visit the saplings again very soon.
