National Voter's Day activities
“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.” - Sharon Salzberg
To encourage more young voters to participate in the political process, the Government of India decided to observe January 25 every year as "National Voters' Day".
National Voter's Day 2023 is observed to commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India, which was created on the date in 1950. The National Voter's Day 2023 celebration was chosen by the Indian government to inspire young people to get involved in politics. The first National Voters’ Day was observed on January 25, 2011, and ever since, has been observed on January 25 with a particular theme.
The significance of the occasion is the need to entreat the youth to actively embrace their responsibility in earnest. With this in mind, classes V-IX took the opportunity to discuss the importance of voting and the need to exercise the right carefully.
To bring out creative expression amongst the students and also to gauge the awareness quotient, a poster-making activity was organised for class V. They made posters that beautifully illustrated the significance of the occasion and the value of each citizen's right to vote.
With the help of videos and presentations, the students of classes VI and VII were sensitised about their duties alongside the rights that their nation provides. They also wrote slogans and discussed the importance of Election Day highlighting their intra personal and kinesthetic abilities.
Students in class VIII wrote articles about how they would exercise their voting rights.
Class IX participated in a quiz which reinforced the importance of every vote. They also elaborated upon the need for and the qualities of a good leader.
National Voter's Day not only encourages the youth to participate in the electoral process but also ingrains the the right to vote as a fundamental right.
