National Sports Day, 2023 celebrations

On 29th August, 2023, The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated National Sports Day, also known as 'Rashtriya Khel Diwas' to commemorate the birth anniversary of  legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, widely regarded as the 'wizard of hockey'. 'Sports are an enabler to an inclusive and fit society', was the theme for this year's National Sports Day celebration.

The students of The Indian School-Second Shift participated in various sports activities to observe the day. One of the objectives was to let students know about the enduring legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, and simultaneously to raise awareness about the importance of sports and physical activities in our daily lives. The students of Pre school, Pre primary and classes 1 to 3 participated in various types of races such as vertical running, cone relay and zig zag running with immense zeal and enthusiasm.

The students of classes 4 to 6 played Kho-kho. They showed great team spirit with their energy levels soaring high. During the matches, they learnt about techniques such as dodging and chain formation, which play a vital role in improving cardiovascular health. The students of classes 7 and 8 engaged in a football match in high spirits, and showcased great team cohesion and sportsmanship. Playing such sports not only helps build strength, stamina and speed, but also improves concentration

It was through this day that the students were made to understand how playing various sports helps them learn life skills such as teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, and self-confidence. Students were encouraged to work on their physical and mental abilities, to work hard and never give up, and to always strive to achieve their goals in life like

true sportspersons. Celebrating this day was a reiteration of the fact that our School believes in promoting sports and physical fitness, and envisions sports as a way to develop discipline, dedication, and commitment, which are essential values for success in life.
