Making eco friendly holi colours in classes 1 and 2

Every spring, people across India and around the world celebrate the fHoli with coloured water and powder colour. Holi symbolises the victory of good over evil, rooted in the mythological story of Holika and Prahlad.

On March 13, 2025, the students of classes 1 and 2 took an innovative and eco-conscious approach to celebrate the vibrant festival. Instead of using conventional chemical-based colors, the students prepared herbal Holi colours using natural ingredients.

The students prepared three colours using common kitchen items. They made yellow by mixing turmeric powder with gram flour, adding rose water to achieve a smooth consistency and pleasant fragrance.

For the green, the students blended henna powder with white flour. Here too, they added rose water to attain the desired consistency for easy application. This eco-friendly colour also had natural cooling properties, making it soothing during the Holi celebrations.

To create the brown, the students used powdered coffee mixed with gram flour as a base. Rose water was added to help bind the ingredients and achieve the right texture. This rich brown coloir served as an effective and safe alternative to synthetic dyes.

The students' efforts were focused on making this Holi celebration not only joyful but also sustainable. By crafting the herbal colours, they reduced the environmental impact associated with synthetic dyes, which are often harmful to both health and nature.
