Library Week Report 2024

Day 1: 21st October
The Library Week began with a visit to the Central Secretariat Library by students of Classes 9 and 10. The students were struck by the library’s extensive collection, with over 8lakh books spanning various subjects including law, history, economics, literature and also the gazetteers. They explored different sections like periodical section, reference section reading departments enriching their knowledge and understanding of various subjects. A special highlight of the day was a session in the conference hall, where the students had an interactive discussion with the Director of the library. The session provided valuable insights into how a library functions and its role in promoting lifelong learning.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the tiny tots of classes 1 to 3 had a storytelling session. This session was conducted by Class 8 students, who shared engaging stories, capturing the imagination of the younger children. Additionally, students from Classes 4 and 5 participated in a role-play activity where they portrayed their favourite literary characters, bringing these figures to life and encouraging a deeper connection with the stories they love.
Day 2: 22nd October
On the second day, Class 6 students visited the National Book Trust (NBT). They participated in a storytelling session led by Ms. Shikha Garg, which introduced them to new stories and ideas. The session was followed by an exciting caricature workshop conducted by Mr. Karan, where the students learned the basics of caricature drawing. This hands-on activity sparked their creativity, providing them a new way to engage with characters and narratives. After the workshop, students visited the NBT bookstore, where they had the opportunity to search and purchase books.
Day 3: 23rd October
The third day was dedicated to various in-house activities that engaged students in creative exercises. Class 3 students were given story cues and tasked with framing their own stories, encouraging them to use their imagination and develop narrative skills. Class 6 students focused on creating book jackets, which taught them how to cover and decorate their books. This activity not only fostered artistic skills but also helped the students understand the importance of book preservation.
Day 4: 24th October
On the fourth day, students from Classes 1-5 enjoyed a movie screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl in their classes. This movie is known for its captivating storyline and moral lessons, providing an entertaining yet educational experience for the students.
Simultaneously, Class 9 and 10 students were engaged in an independent research project in the school library. They were assigned with spontaneous topics and were asked to prepare presentations using the library’s resources. This activity was designed to improve their research skills, encourage critical thinking, and develop their ability to present information effectively.
Day 5: 25th October
The final day of Library Week featured a visit to the Sahitya Akademi Library for students of Classes 7 and 8. This visit provided them with an opportunity to explore Indian literature and culture through the extensive collection of books at the Sahitya Akademi Library. The students gained insights into the literary contributions of renowned authors and deepen their appreciation for literature.
Overall, the week has been a blend of exploration, creativity, and learning, allowing students to foster a deeper love for reading, literature, and knowledge.
