Music is the language of the heart and dance, its action!

A magical melange marked the inter school music and dance competition for primary students, at The Indian School-Second Shift on 27th October, 2017. 300 children of 11 eminent schools of Delhi/NCR assembled to participate on the occasion. The competition comprised of two events- Rendezvous, a fusion dance, where two distinct dance forms were woven intelligently to enhance both without either form being allowed to dominate. Tarang was a folk song event aimed at reviving the timeless tradition of Indian folk music amongst our young students. The programme commenced with a welcome of Chief Guest, Ms. Renu Sharma DDE, Directorate of Education (Government of Delhi). She and our senior teachers lit the customary lamp to invoke the best blessings for our eager young participants. This was followed by an energetic African welcome song by the choir of the host School, Jumbo Bwana. This was in keeping with the School theme of the year, Africa.

In her address, our chief guest congratulated The Indian School-Second Shift for hosting a competition like this at the primary level and wished all the young participants luck. She went on to suggest that other schools must also follow suit and host competitions at this level so that talents are discovered early. She expressed immense joy at being present at The Indian School-Second Shift. The judges for both events were accomplished individuals in the fields of music and dance, namely Dr. Indira Das and Ms. Uma Bhattacharya for music and Ms. Swati Shishodia and Ms. Aishwarya Sinha for dance. Soon we began with the competitions. Both venues were ablaze with talent! It was tantalising for the audience to juggle the opportunities, so not to miss either event or any team! Each team outdid itself and the previous with its concept, its research and its delivery. Exciting compositions of dance blended Ukranian with Rajasthani folk, Flamenco with Kathak and Ballet with Odissi among several others. Tarang was also a lilting line- up of discovered folk songs from across the length and breadth of our country-Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, etc. The judges would have found their brief hard. But as protocol demanded, the results were tabulated even as anticipation filled the little hearts. Result: Rendezvous The Winners Trophy was won by The Indian School-Second Shift and the Runners up Trophy was won by The Lotus Valley School. However as per tradition at our School, being host school, The Indian School-Second Shift, passed over the trophy to The Lotus Valley School. 2nd position was secured by Birla Vidya Niketan 3rd position was secured by Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj Tarang The Winners trophy was secured by The Indian School 2nd position by Tagore International School, East of Kailash 3rd position by The Indian School-Second Shift, which passed it on to the next best school, St. Marys School, Dwarka.
