Inter house Spell Bee

Spelling is important because it aids in reading and writing. It helps cement the connection that is shared between sounds and the alphabets, as it were.

An inter-house Spell Bee was organised for classes I and II on 12th December 20117 in the School auditorium. The competition gave students a platform to learn spellings in different ways. It not only helped students quickly strengthen their spellings, but also increase their vocabulary, learn new concepts, and develop the use of correct English. It also taught teamwork and ingrained a spirit of healthy competition.

The first round was Catch me if you can where the contestants were given 3 options for a word ( 2 wrong and 1 correct) and they needed to choose the correct one. All the houses did well in this round.

Round 2 was the Identify me round where each team was shown a picture which they had to identify and then correctly spell the word without writing it down. Round 3 was a memory test. Each team was shown a picture for 30 seconds after which they had to list down the objects in the picture. Each correctly spelled word got the teams 5 points.

Anxiety filled the auditorium as we proceeded to Round 4. In this round each team had to form smaller and new words from a word given to them on the screen. Last but not the least Round 5 was a riddle round with a buzzer. Mars House scored good points in this round and ended up in a tie with Venus House.

It was quite a competition and even the audience participated enthusiastically! The score board declared the scores- there was a tie between Venus House and Mars House. But lo and behold, Venus clinched the tie breaker and emerged winner followed by Mars at second position. Saturn House came third and Jupiter House took the last position. The teachers incharge, Ms. Neelima Oberoi and Ms.Yahvi Seth ensured that the competitive spirit and excitement were well pitched too!

It was a fun filled competition with a lot of learning edutainment in the true sense!
