Independence Day celebrations across the classes.
"Freedom is never dear at any price. It is the breath of life. What would a man not pay for living?" Mahatma Gandhi
India celebrated her 78th Independence Day on 15th August 2024. It was a day to reflect on the journey that began in 1947 when the country broke free from over 200 years of British rule.
The historic day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and in patriotic spirit at The Indian School – Second Shift. The celebration was a reflection of our commitment to honouring India's rich history and the values of freedom and unity. The School premises were adorned with the national flag, tricolor buntings, and patriotic posters.
The tiny tots of Pre School crafted tricolour balloons with earbud printing. To reinforce the theme of patriotism and national pride in a memorable way, the students sang ‘Ten Little Indians’.
The young ones of Pre Primary made tricolour headgear that not only allowed them to express their creativity but also deepened their connection to the significance of our independence. Wearing their headgear, the students proudly celebrated and honoured the nation’s rich heritage and freedom.
Class 1 students made origami tricolour tulips. This activity helped them appreciate the symbolic significance of the national colours while enhancing their origami skills. Displaying these tulips added a vibrant and patriotic touch to the celebration.
Class 2 was provided with a creative outlet to celebrate and reflect upon the significance of the day. They made posters related to the historical events leading to freedom, our freedom fighters, patriotic symbols and national achievements.
Class 3 went the 'tasty' way to incorporate the colours of the Indian flag—saffron, white, and green—into a culinary project. The students made tricolour sandwiches which allowed them to enjoy a tasty treat and also helped them understand the significance of the special colors.
Students of class 4 participated in the celebration as they engaged in paper craft depicting unique ideas on how they visualise independence. Making flags, balloons, wrist bands, headgears and national symbols, they immersed in joy and each craft spoke volumes of their imagination.
Poetry is a powerful medium for students to explore and express their feelings. By writing and sharing their poems, class 5 students not only engaged with the historical and cultural significance but also developed their creative and literary skills. They also made bookmarks titled with patriotic slogans like “Freedom is our Birthright,” “Unity in Diversity,” and “Jai Hind!”
An Independence Day assembly is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the nation's history and foster a sense of patriotism among students. By including a variety of performances, speeches, and interactive elements at the assembly, a memorable and educational experience was created by the students of classes 6 to 10. Wearing vibrant costumes, the students danced to patriotic tunes and also enacted a skit on the theme ‘Naya Savera’ which pondered upon the changes required for the country’s advancement in terms of our mindsets.
Through these innovative approaches, the celebration became a memorable experience for all participants. As we celebrate this day each year, it is essential to remember and uphold the values of freedom, equality, and justice that were the foundation of our struggle for independence.
At The Indian School – Second Shift, we honour the legacy of those who paved the way for the democratic and diverse nation India is today!
Jai Hind!
